Our scoring system

3. Features (15%)
The feature set of a product can significantly enhance your recording experience. We score each product based on the range, usefulness, and uniqueness of its features, considering how they meet the needs of a home studio setup.
4. Build quality (15%)
Durability and construction quality are essential for gear that will be used regularly. Our evaluation includes material quality, build precision, and, where possible, long-term reliability insights from other users.
5. Value for money (10%)
We assess whether the product offers good value by comparing its price to its features and performance. This score provides insight into whether the equipment is worth its cost relative to similar products.
6. Compatibility (5%)
A product’s ability to integrate smoothly with other equipment and software is vital in any home studio setup. We test compatibility with popular operating systems, digital audio workstations (DAWs), and other recording hardware.
7. Innovation (5%)
We reward products that bring something new to the table, evaluating the unique features or technologies that set them apart.
Innovation can enhance the recording experience and reflect a brand’s commitment to advancing its products.
Weighted final score
Each criterion contributes to a final weighted score out of 10. We then reduce that number by half in order to present a star rating out of 5.
For example, Sound Quality, with a 30% weight, has more influence on the total score than Compatibility or Innovation, which each hold 5%. This weighting system helps emphasise the factors we believe matter most to our audience.
